A couple of weeks ago I decided to join the millions of people on Twitter. It has been an interesting journey, to say the least. When first joining, I thought it was crazy to add one more thing to my to-do list.
Simply put, these are three things I've learned about Twitter (so far):
1. Follow people similar to yourself
I read a lot of tweets from some very interesting people. "Why did I click here," or "Why do I want to follow this person," were thoughts I had when browsing Twitter. The folks I follow are the smart ones who know how to use this medium to drive traffic and gain customers. I thank all of those wonderful people who are sharing their information and expertise with me (and millions of others, of course). I look forward to finding even more great people out there in Twitter-land!
2. Craft your tweets well
I like to comment and not simply retweet (RT). I comment first, paste the @name, make an additional comment, then past the link. I also add #hashtags when possible. I suggest one tries to write in 125 characters - NOT 140. This leaves room for someone else to comment and retweet your comment, if you are lucky! It's just my preference on how I think tweets "look" best. You may have another opinion, but I think it breaks things up nicely and makes for easy to read tweets.
See what you think of these tweets from me (@UnUBecky):
We live in a world where a lot of bad things happen. Just click on any news site and see all the doom and gloom! No thanks! When I am on Twitter, I look for happy, fun and informative resources. These are the people I would want to invite to a dinner party or meet at a convention. Every time I tweet, I hope it helps just one person, or makes one person smile, or gives someone some useful bit of information. Also, we humans love to be noticed, recognized and thanked. We should all strive to do that with our tweets!
I hope to continue to gain followers and share great content with others via Twitter. These people will help me grow the content for my website. For that, I say thanks, again! Thank you to those who have clicked to follow me (200)! Not a ginormous amount, yet, but one that I can manage at the moment... as a "newbie!"
If you have a helpful tip for those starting up in the Twitter World, please post here!
Enjoy your day!
